WGA Partners with RPX and CRC to Take on Patent Troll Problem
Press for Immediate Release
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, October 23, 2014 – William Gallagher Associates (“WGA”) has been chosen by CRC and RPX as the exclusive broker to the northeast for a patent infringement program that covers the costs associated with law suits encountered from Non-Practicing Entities (NPEs). This unique approach allows technology companies the market leverage needed to combat the threat of patent litigation often from patent trolls, most of which have no interest in developing.
RPX’s solution to the problem is to reduce the risk exposure by acquiring patents before NPEs can assert them against its network of clients. RPX has deployed more than $100 million annually in acquiring patents and has received more than 430 dismissals from over 60 litigations.
“Historically, securing insurance coverage for intellectual property has been a very complicated process, this program gives technology executives useful tools to help quantify a potential financial hit, and to plan accordingly to mitigate the risks,” commented Jamie Balboni, Principal and Property & Casualty Practice Leader for WGA. “This combination of an insurance product with membership to this powerful consortium provides the best protection available today.”
Patent infringement is no longer just a problem to larger technology companies. Today, the NPE patent troll problem has an impact on any company with technology related patents; this can range from start-ups to middle market venture-backed, all the way up to the fortune 500.
