Massachusetts Health Connector Terminating Voluntary Plan

12/08/2013

Due to a provision in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), the Massachusetts Health Connector is terminating their Voluntary Plan program as of December 31, 2013. PPACA prohibits the purchase of health insurance on a pre-tax basis through a health insurance Market place like the Connector. Employees will still be able keep their current plan through the Connector but will have to pay their premium to the Connector directly and on a post-tax basis. Employers are still required to provide employees with a Section 125 plan option to pay for their employer-sponsored health insurance on a pre-tax basis.
