Information on Rhode Island Temporary Caregiver Insurance (TCI) Program

Beginning January 5, 2014, Rhode Island’s Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI) division will begin administering the Temporary Caregiver Insurance (TCI) program.  The TCI program provides eligible participants with up to four weeks of benefits to care for a seriously ill child, spouse, domestic partner, parent, parent-in-law or grandparent, or to bond with a newborn child, new adopted or foster-care child.  The TCI program is financed entirely by employee payroll deductions.  The monetary eligibility requirements are the same as the TDI.  Claimants must have not only worked in Rhode Island and paid into the TDI fund, but also earned at least $9,300 in their four-quarter base period or alternate base period.
